CES 2024-2025 TOTY | Calhoun Elementary School is proud to announce that Mrs. Beckey Brown has been selected by her peers as Teacher of the Year for 2024-2025. This school year marks Beckey’s 19th year in education and she has served all of those years at CES. Mrs. Brown currently teaches 5th grade ELA where she is the lead teacher for her department. Additionally, she serves as a Capturing Kids’ Hearts Process Champion for Calhoun Elementary.
Mrs. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from the University of West Georgia, a master's degree in early childhood education from Kennesaw State University, and a specialist degree in curriculum and instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. She also holds endorsements in ESOL and gifted education, and middle grades reading and language arts. Beckey is married to Kevin Brown and has 3 children, Allisen Byrd (Caleb, Scarlett, & August), Katelin West, and Reghan West, all of whom are Calhoun High School graduates.
Beckey’s peers shared the following:
"Mrs. Brown shows patience and empathy with each of her students. She actively listens to her students and works to develop mutual respect. She encourages learning with excitement and embraces continued learning herself. She truly has a passion for guiding students and teaching them. She is helpful to all, not just those who work closely with her. She is kind, generous, thoughtful, and a proactive force in this school system. She is the hardest worker I know, and always looking out for others. She is selfless, kind, humble, and open to anything. She loves what she does, and it shows through the passion she demonstrates for her students.”
