Calhoun City Schools’ agriculture, food, & natural resources career cluster prepares students for careers pertaining to the production, processing, marketing, financing, distribution, and development of agricultural commodities (food, fiber, wood products, natural resources, horticulture, and other plant and animal products) and resources. Within this cluster, two pathways are offered: first, horticulture and animal systems and secondly, horticulture and mechanical systems. Basic agriculture is the foundational class for each of these pathways. Dr. Trish Williams, agriculture education instructor is excited to announce that small animal care will soon join the course offerings at CHS.
The Calhoun CTAE agriculture courses are enhanced by FFA, providing ample opportunities for students to excel through career development projects, supervised agricultural experiences, and leadership programs. Our students' impressive achievements are evident from their recent successes at the National FFA Agriscience Fair. Gold Emblem National Finalists are Olivia Dodd & Wes Taylor for power structural and technical systems and Ava Dobash & Gabe Thomason for plant science. Earning a bronze medal at nationals was Carolynn Dooley for animal systems. This success is a testament to our commitment to excellence in agriculture and education. To support Calhoun CTAE Agriculture students, we invite the community to participate in their fall mum sale, spring plant sale, and various fundraisers throughout the year to be part of their amazing journey.
