The National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently celebrated the achievements of this year's $2500 National Merit Scholarship winners, with our very own Calhoun High School, senior Nate Eickman, earning this prestigious honor.
Selected from over 15,000 exceptional Finalists, Nate was recognized for his impressive array of accomplishments and his potential for success in rigorous college studies. The scholarship recipients are judged on a combination of their academic records, including the rigor of subjects taken and grades earned, performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), leadership roles, community service involvement, an essay submission, and recommendations from school officials.
The NMSC, a not-for-profit organization founded in 1955, underwrites most of these scholarships with the support of corporations and donations, ensuring that scholars like Nate can pursue their educational goals at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university. This year alone, the program will award nearly $26 million in college scholarships to more than 6,870 deserving students nationwide.
We are incredibly proud of Nate for representing our community on this national stage, and we look forward to seeing the great things he will accomplish in his future academic endeavors. Congratulations, Nate!
