On Monday, October 28, Calhoun City Schools held its annual Charter System and School Governance Team (SGT) Fall Training at the Board of Education Central Office. Led by Georgia Charter System Foundation leaders, the training focused on strategic initiatives, collaborative planning, and strengthening community partnerships to support student success.
Since becoming a charter system in 2011, Calhoun City Schools (CCS) has consistently benefited from its unique status. This designation provides the district with increased operational flexibility, allowing for customized scheduling, staffing, and curriculum tailored to local needs. Additionally, CCS enjoys greater autonomy in budgeting and funding, enabling targeted investments in programs, resources, and staff development that directly impact student success.
As a charter system, CCS is empowered to expand student opportunities by offering specialized programs, such as career academies and dual-enrollment options, which equip students with essential real-world skills and prepare them for their future careers. The involvement of School Governance Teams (SGTs) ensures that parents, educators, and community leaders have a voice in decision-making, allowing local priorities to shape school policies and initiatives. This collaborative approach is a crucial part of CCS's commitment to student success.
"We are fortunate to be a Charter System, which gives us the flexibility to innovate and enhance opportunities for all students," stated Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor, recognizing the contributions of the dedicated Board of Education, SGT members, and the College & Career Academy Board of Directors that were in attendance. Their commitment and collaboration are vital to the ongoing mission of inspiring all students to become lifelong learners in pursuit of excellence.
As a recognized Charter System, CCS has a strong tradition of excellence, named Georgia's Charter System of the Year in 2016 and 2022. The district's dedication to fostering a supportive and flexible learning environment continues to distinguish it as a leader in educational innovation and community collaboration.
