Congratulations to our 2024 REACH Scholars! Calhoun Middle School students Carter Sutton and Katherine Alarcon-Castillo have been named the 2024 Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen (REACH) Scholars! The REACH Georgia program provides support to students with academic promise, guiding them from middle school to college success with scholarship opportunities. Katherine and Carter will receive scholarships upon high school graduation to help them pursue their college dreams. The REACH Scholar signing day will be held Monday, November 18th at the Board of Education meeting at Calhoun City Schools' Central Office. We look forward to celebrating Carter and Katherine's hard work and dedication!

This weekend, the CHS boys and girls cross country teams swarmed in the first ever GHSA 3A Sectional 2 race and qualified for the state meet for the 12th consecutive year. The boys placed 8th and the girls finished 11th to secure the state birth. The boys secured a region runner up finish and the girls finished as the third best team from Region 7-AAA. The boys were led by sophomore star Demetrius Clavino with his 6th place finish in a fast time of 16:32 on the technical, hilly course. Senior leader Carolynn Dooley set the tone for the Lady Jackets, who ran her stronger race of the year and finished 10th overall in a time of 21:02. Xavier Hinojosa, Leyver Mendez, Walker Hurd, and Joseph Jones, Dayman Perez, and Robert Morales excelled and qualified for state. Dylan Duke, Giulianna Lopez, Maggie Malone, Sara Elise Gallman, Debora Lopez, and Saira Mendoza had great finishes on their way to a state qualifying run. The Jackets will hit the road again and travel to Carrollton on 11/9 to race in the GHSA State Championship Meet. #proudtobeayellowjacket 🐝
