Driver's education prepares a new driver to obtain a learner's permit or driver's license.

 

Driver’s Education: Traditional Course: $290

Location: Calhoun High School

*Must attend all classes in person for course credit.

  • Age requirement:

    • Students must have a Learner's Permit or Driver's License before driving instruction can begin, but may enroll in the course and complete classroom portion at age 14.

  • Certified course meets Joshua’s Law and insurance reduction.

    • Joshua’s Law: as of July 1, 2021 - All 16 and 17 year-olds are required to complete a certified driver education course before they can obtain their license or wait until the age of 18 to receive a driver's license. 

  • Information on Behind-the-Wheel Hours:

    • The class roster will be split between two program drivers. The drivers will contact their students to schedule driving hours after classroom hours have been completed, and will attempt to schedule drivers in order, according to their date of birth/license expiration date.

    • Students should have completed 40-hours of driving time with a licensed adult before scheduling their Behind-the-Wheel hours.

Online Driver's Education - 30 hour course: $75 (click here to register )

  • Must log 30 hours online for course credit

  • May be taken any time

Behind The Wheel *Only* with a certified driving instructor: $225 (click here to register)

  • Must have completed a 30-hour classroom instruction hours (in-person or online)

    • *Certificate for classroom hours must be emailed to Jessica Garcia before driving can begin. 

  • Must drive with a certified driving instructor for 6 hours for course credit.

  • Students should have completed 40-hours of driving time with a licensed adult before scheduling Behind-the-Wheel hours.

Georgia Driver's Education Grant Scholarship Program
Calhoun Community Education is a proud authorized provider for the Georgia Driver's Education Grant Scholarship program sponsored by the Georgia Driver's Education Commission. All high school students in Georgia will be able to apply directly for driver's education opportunities due to a new grant scholarship program created by Georgia Driver's Education Commission. Georgia residents between ages 15-17 years old actively enrolled in school possessing a valid driving permit are eligible for the student driver's scholarship program. Students who enroll in the program will have at least 30 hours of classroom training and six hours of training behind the wheel. 

Scholarship must be awarded before the course begins. We are unable to offer refunds to anyone who receives the grant after the course has started.

  • The scholarship may only be redeemed by students who enroll in the traditional 30/6 class.

Once approved, students must email a copy of their driver's license and the scholarship redemption code to Jessica Garcia.
