On Thursday, January 23, 2025, Sara Pass, an eighth-grader at Calhoun Middle School, was crowned the Calhoun City Schools District Spelling Bee Champion. The competition, held at the CCS Board of Education Central Office, featured the top six students from Calhoun Elementary and Middle School, all competing for the opportunity to advance to the regional level and pursue the state championship.
In an exciting final round, Sara secured her victory by correctly spelling the word "karma." Jayden Alvarez, a sixth-grader from Calhoun Elementary School, put up a strong fight as the runner-up, competing closely with Sara through eleven intense rounds. CES fifth-grader Alanna Hogan claimed third place.
The district competition showcased exceptional talent, with participants Ayden Lampe, Dax Murphy, and James Linn selected from a pool of over 1,500 students from both Calhoun Elementary School and Calhoun Middle School.
Congratulations to all participants for exemplifying the black and gold standard of excellence! As we look forward to the regional competition in February, we wish Sara Pass the best as she represents Calhoun City Schools. A special thank you goes to our parents, teachers, and administration for their unwavering support in making events like this possible. Calhoun City Schools takes pride in celebrating the achievements of its students in academics, arts, and athletics.
