Calhoun High School senior, Nadia Balderas, was selected as the Calhoun College and Career Academy (CCCA) Student of the Week for September 11-17, 2023. Nadia was nominated by her culinary instructor, Ms. Caroline Atkins, to be in the spotlight this week.
Nadia was selected for the Student Spotlight because she is a great Culinary Arts student and is serving as Treasurer for FCCLA this year. She shows great leadership skills and has been promoted to manager at her job. Nadia is a great project manager, meets deadlines, and delegates duties to her fellow FCCLA members. She is a very organized student and leader, and often organizes her culinary teacher's desk. So far this year, she took the lead on our FCCLA chapter t-shirts, has volunteered for events, and has made big plans for our program.
The CTSO, Career and Technical Student Organization, that Nadia is a member of is Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). FCCLA is a nonprofit national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education in public and private schools. When asked why she chose the culinary pathway, Nadia responded, “I want to learn how to cook and I really liked the classroom environment. This class really helps me express myself.”
Nadia also said, “Even if you don't plan to be a chef, you need the skills from these classes. How to properly wash dishes and clean laundry, how to cook for two people vs. twenty people, how to keep food safe...some people don't learn these things at home, so it's good we have this class.”
In the future, Nadia plans to attend Dalton State College where she plans to study Health Science and become a radiologist.
Congratulations to Nadia for being selected as the CCCA Student of the Week for September 11-17.
