On February 27, 2024, Calhoun City Schools and Gordon County Schools launched a new training program called Talent Connect with support from the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce. The initiative aims to assist high school seniors not pursuing college to prepare for professional opportunities and careers. The eight-day workforce training course is tailored for seniors graduating in 2024 who are interested in careers with leading local manufacturers. Local companies sponsor the Talent Connect program and seek to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen fields, ensuring students are exposed to relevant and up-to-date industry practices.
On the inaugural day, Kathy Johnson, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce, warmly welcomed 17 students. They received a financial literacy lesson led by Matt Land from Stern Investments and engaged in personal development training through personality assessments conducted by Brandi Hayes and Leah Newsom, the Career and Technical Directors from the school systems.
EVCO Plastics generously sponsored the event, and representatives from the company, including Ruben Reyes (Plant Manager) and team members Juan Fraire, Austin Spiegel, and Aaron Calvert, were present to enlighten Talent Connect students about their company. The EVCO Plastics team conducted a tour of their local facilities after the presentation.
The Directors of the Career and Technical programs expressed that the first day was a success and that they eagerly anticipate more enriching training sessions to equip these young individuals for their next steps in life. Overall, Talent Connect is a well-conceived and executed program that will positively impact the local community. It is a testament to the commitment of Calhoun City Schools, Gordon County Schools, and the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce to support the next generation of workers and ensure the continued growth and success of the local manufacturing industry. #CTAEdelivers
