STATE BOUND: Calhoun High School cross country swarmed on Tuesday at the Region 7-AAAAA Championship and finished fourth in both the boys and girls varsity races to qualify for the GHSA State Championship Meet. This extended their streak of state appearances for both the boys and girls to more than a decade. Carolynn Dooley separated from the pack to win the girls varsity race and back to back region individual titles with her time of 20:43. Freshman Demetrius Clavino fought hard the last mile to win the boys varsity race and secure the individual region title with a time of 16:37. This is the first time in CHS history that individuals on both the boys and girls teams won the region championship race.
Giuliana Lopez and Meleana Adcock both set personal bests for the girls and were followed by outstanding performances from Beyonce Brito, Maggie Malone, Citlalli Vigil Jaime. Xavier Hinojosa set a PR of 17:24 to earn a medal. Leyver Mendez, Israel Lopez, Anthony Velazquez, Walker Hurd, and Riley Sutton finished soon after with strong kicks. Kathryn Land, an 8th grade student, won the JV girls race and was followed by a top ten finish from fellow eighth-grader Saira Mendoza. Kevin Jacobo was the leader for the boys JV team with a 4th place medal finish. The Jackets punched their ticket to state and will travel to Carrollton for the GHSA State Championship Meet on Friday, November 3rd. #GoJackets 🐝💨

Calhoun High School cross country returned from fall break and jumped into action at the Fast Break Challenge in Ringgold, Georgia, against approximately 30 teams from North Georgia and East Tennessee. The boys fought hard to secure a 5th-place finish, and the girls rallied to a 15th overall finish. Freshman star Demetrius Clavino finished second to secure yet another medal with a time of 16:19. Sophomore leader Xavier Hinojosa rallied in the second half of the race to finish 14th with a time of 17:28. Anthony Velazquez, Leyver Mendez, Walker Hurd, Kevin Jacobo, and Riley Sutton all contributed to the team finish. Junior Carolynn Dooley ran strong and led the girls with a time of 21:58. She was followed by strong performances from Giulianna Lopez, Meleana Adcock, Beyonce Brito, Maggie Malone, Citlalli Vigil Jaime, and Debora Lopez. Israel Lopez led the JV team and medaled with a 5th-place finish. Israel Lopez also returned to action to medal in JV.
The Jackets will aim to Swarm in the Region 7-AAAAA Championship on Tuesday (10/24) at Dellinger Park in Cartersville.

The Calhoun Marching Yellow Jackets made their debut at the Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands this weekend. Despite facing tough competition, the band embraced the challenge and emerged triumphant. Their exceptional performances earned them superior ratings in drum major, majorettes, and colorguard. Additionally, the drumline received an excellent rating, contributing to the band's overall excellent rating. Calhoun High School cross country swarmed on Saturday at the Wire2Wire Invitational in Cartersville against more than fifteen teams from across Georgia. The girls finished 9th overall and 4th out of region teams. The girls were led by junior Carolynn Dooley, who medaled with a 5th place finish and speedy PR time of 20:37. Giulianna Lopez and Beyonce Brito finished next for the girls with PR times. Meleana Adcock, Citlalli Vigil Jaime, Sofia Carreto, and Daniella Sanchez all finished strong. The boys placed 3rd overall and 2nd out of region teams. Freshman Demetrius Clavino finished 3rd (16:26) and sophomore Xavier Hinojosa placed 15th (17:37) to lead the way with medal finishes. Leyver Mendez, Israel Lopez, Walker Hurd, Anthony Velazquez, and Riley Sutton rallied in the race to set PRs. The top JV performers were Maggie Malone and Kevin Jacobo. The Jackets will host and compete in the Gordon County Championship on Tuesday at the Resaca Battlefield Historic Site. Good luck, Jackets!

Calhoun High School cross country ran in the championship races at the OrthoWest Invitational in Carrollton on Saturday. Thousands of runners from across the state flocked to the race for a preview of the state championship course. Carolynn Dooley excelled with a time of 21:18 on the tough course. Freshman Demetrius Clavino was the top finisher for the Calhoun boys with a time of 17:13. Sophomore Xavier Hinojosa had a big day with a time of 18:10. Other strong performers and point scorers included Meleana Adcock, Beyonce Brito, Anthony Velazquez, Walker Hurd, Citlalli Vigil Jaimes, Sofia Carreto, and Kevin Jacobo.
