community leaders

Calhoun Middle School eighth-grade students Marley Roach and Janel Reyes, talked about their coat drive initiative on a radio interview at WJTH with United Way of Gordon County Director Stacy Long. Marley and Janel explained that they started the coat drive because they want to make sure that no child in our community goes without a warm coat during the winter. They believe that every child deserves to stay warm.

Right now, the coat drive mainly focuses on Calhoun Middle School, but Marley and Janel have big plans to expand it to other schools and local businesses. They want to make sure that all kids in our community have access to warm coats this winter. They are challenging the community to get involved by donating new or slightly used coats at the Calhoun Middle School front office.

Marley and Janel expressed their gratitude to everyone who supports the coat drive. They believe that your generosity will have a huge impact on our community and the lives of many children. These students were joined by two community influences Miranda Bentley, the VAC Director, and Stacy Long, United Way Director, who are both known for their continuous efforts to ensure the people of our community are provided with basic needs and assistance. WJTH radio stated, "thank you girls for caring about others who need a warm coat. Calhoun and Gordon County, lets get involved and help get lots of coats!"

Great job, Marley and Janel! You two are truly #CCSHeroes, and we want to commend you for your outstanding efforts in making a positive difference in so many lives.
