Calhoun Middle School's 7th-grade students started their STEM CSI Unit by hearing from community speakers on Friday. Officers from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) and The City of Calhoun Police Department spoke about their current positions, education, training, and interesting facts about their work. Officer Jeremy Thompson demonstrated how K-9 dogs detect substances and protect their handlers, while the school resource officer explained search warrants. The students learned how DNA can be traced through fingerprints, blood, and saliva to help officers solve criminal cases. The officers wore different attires, such as full uniform or casual clothes, to show that police officers can look different in different situations. The students loved having the chance to ask questions and interact with the officers. CMS thanks the officers for taking time out of their day to speak with our students!
