On Thursday, January 18, 2024, Hajrah Qureshi, a seventh-grader at Calhoun Middle School, claimed the title of Calhoun City Schools District Spelling Bee Champion. The competition, hosted at the Board of Education Central Office, brought together the top six students from Calhoun Elementary and Middle School, all competing for the chance to advance to the regional level and aim for the state championship.
In an exciting final round, Hajrah Qureshi secured her victory by spelling "incandescent" and "magistrates" correctly. Harper Montgomery, a sixth-grader from Calhoun Elementary School, impressed as the runner-up, with Jayce Watson taking the third spot.
The district competition showcased exceptional talent, including participants Jacob Bateman, Joey Errickson, and Oliver Hewlett, all of whom were selected from a pool of over 1500 students from Calhoun Elementary and Middle School.
