On Friday, April 19, sixty-three students became the first members of the Junior Rho Kappa Chapter at Calhoun Middle School. Rho Kappa is a national honor society for social studies, supported by the National Council for the Social Studies. Its main aim is to deepen students' knowledge and interest in subjects like history, economics, government, and geography.
This new chapter is named after James W. Lay, a Calhoun High School graduate and well-known local historian, recognizing his efforts to preserve the history of Calhoun and Gordon County. Mr. Lay was presented with an honorary membership in the organization by Mr. Daniel Bennett, Rho Kappa, Jr. Advisor for Calhoun Middle.
Calhoun City Schools congratulates all the new members of the Junior Rho Kappa Chapter!
