Calhoun City Schools kicked off the new school year with a back-to-school assembly to celebrate the work of all teachers and staff as they prepare for a smooth opening to the 2024-2025 school year.
Continuing to "Capture Kids' Hearts”, CCS has trained faculty and staff on the process of engaging with students in creating a culture focused on trust and collaboration which empowers them to take ownership of their learning. This year's theme carries the message, "United We Stand, Together, We SWARM!" The schools will continue to work together to create the best opportunities for Calhoun students and families.
More than 400 teachers, administrators, support staff, school board and governance team members filled the Calhoun Performing Arts Center on Wednesday in preparation for the 2024-2025 school year. Groups recognized included employees with more than 25 years of service, present and past teachers of the year, teachers who have earned advanced degrees and all new employees.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor thanked Chief Tony Pyle, Mayor Jimmy Palmer, and the Calhoun City Council for providing funds for additional canine school resource officers.
School Board Chair, Rhoda Washington, recognized the accomplishments of Calhoun City’s Board of Education. Named as an Exemplary Board, CCS Board members stand out as leaders in the schools, community and state. Facilitators thanked the board, school governance team members and Calhoun's College and Career Academy Board of Directors.
CHS Student Body President, Danika Morton welcomed all in attendance. Amanda Swift, Principal of the Calhoun Early Learning Academy; Mana Smith, Primary School Principal; Hope Stephenson, Elementary Principal; Dr. Allison Eubanks, Middle School Principal and Casey Parker, Principal of Calhoun High School recognized their faculties. System leadership staff recognized departments and school support staff.
Host, teacher and coach, Donny Robertson engaged the group throughout the morning with Patriotic Password and the Masked Singer skits. Calhoun High Schools’ women's trio and men's quartet entertained the crowd with patriotic selections.
In keeping with this year's theme, Veteran Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Johnny “Joey” Jones addressed the group. Joey is a journalist, author and avid outdoorsman. A regular in-demand contributor across all Fox News Media platforms, Joey shares with others how he’s overcome adversity and continues to remain positive. His first book, which remained on the New York Times best-selling list for months, “Unbroken Bonds of Battle” was released on June 27, 2023. The book offers deep insight into the relationships and events that forged Joey’s outlook on life. Joey currently serves on the Board of Directors for the national nonprofit Boot Campaign, which serves the health and wellness of the veteran community through a pipeline of treatment resources. He resides here in Calhoun, Georgia, with his family, and his children attend Calhoun City Schools. In his spare time, Joey is a novice woodworker, avid hunter, and dedicated college football and Atlanta Braves fan.
Calhoun City Schools' open house will be held on Thursday, August 1st, with the first day for students being Tuesday, August 6th.
