Calhoun City Schools and the Calhoun Police Department continue their shared focus on school safety as they welcome three new officers to the school resource program for the 2024-2025 school year. Corporal Courtney Wilkerson, and two K-9 officers, Sergeant Krackle and Sergeant Ellie, will serve the city of Calhoun and Calhoun City Schools as permanent fixtures of the SRO program. They will join Lieutenant Waycaster, Sergeant Graham, Corporal Crider, and Captain Housley to ensure that all schools have adequate support on a daily basis.
The entire SRO team was introduced to all Calhoun City Schools employees at their recent Back to School kickoff assembly. Sergeant Krackle and Sergeant Ellie were fan favorites as they were welcomed with a round of applause. These specialized officers will serve the city school system with a dual purpose. They will be on each campus daily to provide social/emotional support as compassion animals, while also serving in a preventive role. They are specially trained to detect and alert on drugs and weapons that could be present in the schools or at extracurricular events. By alerting police officers to the presence of such items, they will serve as an active deterrent while also aiding in the removal of such items from school premises.
School safety shall remain a priority at Calhoun City Schools. The Calhoun Police Department and Calhoun City Schools would like to make the public aware that Sergeant Krackle and Sergeant Ellie will be present at extracurricular activities and that members of the public should be reminded that weapons of any kind, drugs, vapes, etc. are not permitted on school property per state law and school board policy.
Please join us in welcoming our newest officers and celebrating the important work that they perform each day. Go Jackets!
