Parents and Community,
Late Saturday afternoon, Calhoun Police Officers arrested a 13 year old juvenile in connection with a threat directed at Calhoun Middle School. This verbal threat was shared with several students. The juvenile has been charged with terroristic threats and will be detained by the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Youth Detention Center.
In a separate, unrelated case, two other middle school students are being investigated for sharing social media posts that were threatening in nature. These two students will not be allowed on campus or at extracurricular events while the investigation is being conducted.
We are appreciative of School Resource Officer Lieutenant Mark Waycaster, Lieutenant Brian Defoor, and Calhoun Police Officers, who have worked nonstop over the weekend to investigate these matters.
Many students, teachers, parents and community members have shared information that helped in the investigation. Chief Pyle reminds the community to be vigilant in sharing information that is related to the safety of our schools. The partnership between the schools and law enforcement ensures that we remain focused on keeping our students and staff safe.
