Calhoun City Schools is proud to announce a significant increase in algebra test scores for the 2023-2024 academic year, showcasing remarkable progress and setting a new standard for excellence.
In FY24, 61% of high school students scored proficient or higher in algebra, up from 33% in FY23. This growth represents a near doubling of the proficient and above percentages in just one year and a tripling of scores since FY21 when the district was at 20%. The state average also increased from 36% to 45%, but Calhoun’s gains far surpassed the state’s progress.
Additionally, the percentage of students scoring at the distinguished level more than doubled, rising from 10% in FY23 to 21% in FY24. When 8th-grade algebra results are included, the overall percentage of students scoring proficient and above climbs to an impressive 64%.
Last year, the district set a goal to meet or exceed the results of four high-performing schools in algebra. Not only did Calhoun City Schools achieve this goal, but the team also surpassed the performance of three of those schools in 2023 despite navigating new standards, curriculum changes, and a new instructional framework for math.
“We are thrilled to see such a tremendous improvement in our algebra scores,” said Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor. “This success is a testament to the dedication and collaboration of our teachers and staff. Their commitment to student achievement is truly making a difference.”
Calhoun City Schools looks forward to building on this momentum and inspiring all students to become lifelong learners in the pursuit of excellence.
