All Five Schools Honored with the Prestigious
Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness

Calhoun, GA – The Calhoun Early Learning Academy, Primary School, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School were all recently named Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness schools. Of the 2,238 public Georgia schools, Calhoun City Schools proudly represents five of the 134 Georgia schools honored with the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness in its pilot year.

Awarded by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS), the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness recognizes schools that have gone above and beyond in the area of school emergency preparedness. The seal indicates that a school has taken the initiative to improve their emergency preparedness through extensive planning and risk mitigation efforts.

Calhoun City Schools Assistant Superintendent of Operations, Dr. Peter Coombe, shared, “The Calhoun City Schools community is extremely proud of each of our schools for their extraordinary efforts to maintain a safe learning environment for all students. This recognition affirms the hard work of our building administrators, staff, and students as they develop and implement safety plans that are put into action each day. With the support of the Calhoun Police Department, Fire Department and Emergency Management Agencies, Calhoun remains focused on expanding its safety efforts each year as school safety remains our number one priority.”

“I offer my sincere congratulations to the Calhoun City School system and each of their schools on their receipt of the Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness,” State School Superintendent Richard Woods said. “This distinction recognizes a leader in school emergency preparedness – a school that has gone above and beyond to ensure the safety of their students, teachers, and staff. It’s an honor to recognize the hard work and intentional planning that led to this designation.”

The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness recognizes a comprehensive school emergency planning process that utilizes an “all hazards” approach and accounts for a wide range of possible threats and hazards. As schools continually face safety-related challenges, it is incumbent upon school leaders to take initiative to improve the emergency preparation needs of their buildings and be leaders in the field through appropriate planning and risk mitigation efforts.

The Ready Georgia Seal of Preparedness annual recognition encourages consistent collaboration and adjustment to safety plans. Calhoun City Schools remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all students and staff. This recognition serves as a testament to the district’s ongoing dedication to emergency preparedness and proactive planning. Through strong partnerships and continuous improvement, Calhoun City Schools will continue to prioritize a safe and secure learning environment for all.
