Calhoun City Schools ESS Department will host a parent training led by Parent to Parent (P2P) of Georgia on Friday, December 1st from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the CCS Central Office. P2P supports Georgia families and individuals impacted by disabilities or special health care needs. This parent training will provide an overview of the supports provided by P2P and a discussion on the NOW/COMP Medicaid waivers. Join us this Friday for an informative session!

Seven FCCLA members from Calhoun High School and Co Advisors Caroline Atkins and Sarah Brown recently attended the FCCLA Fall Leadership Conference in Covington, GA. The CHS members honed their leadership skills during this two-day event and connected with fellow members. They participated in competitions to boost our chapter's Honor Roll points and Program of Work. Beyoncé Brito showcased her talent in cupcake decorating, while Adrianna Morgan, Jaxin Spivey, Lexie Delaney, and Elauria Mattox tackled the Statesman Exam. Additionally, our students engaged in inspiring leadership sessions and team-building activities to strengthen our chapter's unity. Angie Urdapilleta (8th Grade) and Kenya Perez (12th Grade) both won "Honorary Media Awards" in Painting at the Hughston Foundation 6th Annual Art Gala Competition and Exhibition on Thursday Nov. 9. This biological and medically inspired art competition encourages students to create artwork while integrating the principal areas of the national STEAM initiative (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics). The Calhoun cross country boys and girls teams swarmed on Friday in the 5A GHSA State Cross Country Championship. The weather was cold, and the competition was fierce. Freshman Demetrius Clavino led the way for the Jackets with a time of 17:41 in his first state race on the hilly course. Leyver Mendez set a personal PR of 18:05 with a big performance, while Xavier Hinojosa overcame a tough start to have a big day. Israel Lopez, Walker Hurd, Anthony Velazquez, and Riley Sutton all set course PRs to finish the season. The boys improved their team average on the course from last season's finish by almost two minutes and finished 19th. Carolynn Dooley led the girls squad with a 62nd place finish and time of 21:48. Juniors Giulianna Lopez and Meleana Adcock excelled for the Lady Jackets with course PRs. Maggie Malone, Debora Lopez, Beyonce Brito, and Citlalli Vigil Jaime finished the final race strong. The girls placed 26th and improved their team average by approximately three minutes from the previous season. The Jackets will return most runners and hope to carry the momentum from this season into their new region next fall. #GoJackets
