The CHS Class of 2024 has been busy exploring post-secondary options this fall. Students attended events like the Georgia College Probe Tour, Skilled Trade Expo, and GNTC Rome Campus preview day. They've met with college admissions counselors, explored technical programs, and learned about apprenticeship opportunities in northwest Georgia.
Mrs. Arnold recently discussed GEORGIA MATCH with our seniors. They're researching their matched institutions in preparation for Apply to College Day on November 8th. Military recruiters will also be on campus that day to provide information about various military branches. Stay tuned for more details on Georgia schools waiving application fees in November!

STATE BOUND: Calhoun High School cross country swarmed on Tuesday at the Region 7-AAAAA Championship and finished fourth in both the boys and girls varsity races to qualify for the GHSA State Championship Meet. This extended their streak of state appearances for both the boys and girls to more than a decade. Carolynn Dooley separated from the pack to win the girls varsity race and back to back region individual titles with her time of 20:43. Freshman Demetrius Clavino fought hard the last mile to win the boys varsity race and secure the individual region title with a time of 16:37. This is the first time in CHS history that individuals on both the boys and girls teams won the region championship race.
Giuliana Lopez and Meleana Adcock both set personal bests for the girls and were followed by outstanding performances from Beyonce Brito, Maggie Malone, Citlalli Vigil Jaime. Xavier Hinojosa set a PR of 17:24 to earn a medal. Leyver Mendez, Israel Lopez, Anthony Velazquez, Walker Hurd, and Riley Sutton finished soon after with strong kicks. Kathryn Land, an 8th grade student, won the JV girls race and was followed by a top ten finish from fellow eighth-grader Saira Mendoza. Kevin Jacobo was the leader for the boys JV team with a 4th place medal finish. The Jackets punched their ticket to state and will travel to Carrollton for the GHSA State Championship Meet on Friday, November 3rd. #GoJackets 🐝💨

The Calhoun Middle School Cross-Country team finished out a successful season last Thursday at the BGSMAA Region Championships at Hurricane Alley in Cartersville. The boys fought hard to secure a 2nd place finish and were named Region Runner Up! The girls rallied to a 4th overall finish with 7th grade star Sammy Hinojosa finishing 2nd place overall to secure yet another medal with a personal record time of 11:31!
For the boys, CMS 8th grader, Dayman Perez had a strong day finishing in 6th with a PR time of 11:44. Rolfi DeLeon-Simon finished in 12th with a 12:21, and Ethan Worley rounded out the top 20 to medal with his PR of 12:46! Ayden Lampe, David Cisneros-Orozco, & Jaxson Duke all contributed to the team finish.
Lady Jackets' 6th grader Sloane Barasoain had her personal record and led the girls with a blazing time of 12:25. 8th grader Kathryn Land finished in 8th place with a PR of 13:04. She was followed by strong performances from Olivia Moore, Saira Mendoza-Melgar, Jaiden Dobson, Kamryn Kendrick,& Daphne Torres.

Calhoun High School cross country returned from fall break and jumped into action at the Fast Break Challenge in Ringgold, Georgia, against approximately 30 teams from North Georgia and East Tennessee. The boys fought hard to secure a 5th-place finish, and the girls rallied to a 15th overall finish. Freshman star Demetrius Clavino finished second to secure yet another medal with a time of 16:19. Sophomore leader Xavier Hinojosa rallied in the second half of the race to finish 14th with a time of 17:28. Anthony Velazquez, Leyver Mendez, Walker Hurd, Kevin Jacobo, and Riley Sutton all contributed to the team finish. Junior Carolynn Dooley ran strong and led the girls with a time of 21:58. She was followed by strong performances from Giulianna Lopez, Meleana Adcock, Beyonce Brito, Maggie Malone, Citlalli Vigil Jaime, and Debora Lopez. Israel Lopez led the JV team and medaled with a 5th-place finish. Israel Lopez also returned to action to medal in JV.
The Jackets will aim to Swarm in the Region 7-AAAAA Championship on Tuesday (10/24) at Dellinger Park in Cartersville.

CHS Lady Jackets softball sweeps Ridgeland in both varsity and JV action tonight! The varsity won 9-1 with a dominating team performance, and the JV finished strong with a 3-0 win! The Calhoun Marching Yellow Jackets made their debut at the Lake Lanier Tournament of Bands this weekend. Despite facing tough competition, the band embraced the challenge and emerged triumphant. Their exceptional performances earned them superior ratings in drum major, majorettes, and colorguard. Additionally, the drumline received an excellent rating, contributing to the band's overall excellent rating. Great news! Paul Campbell's Perfect Attendance Day competition was a huge success! The 3rd, 1st, and 4th grade classes showed outstanding attendance rates of over 95% on Friday (9/29)! Congratulations to these students for their hard work and dedication. As a reward, the winning grades will be treated to an ice cream party! The CHS Debate Team had a great showing in the Marist Ivy Street Classic this weekend. Novice Pippa McKinney had a winning record placing in the top ten and varsity's Lowry Duggin made it to the quarterfinals. Way to go!
